Saxitoxin og neosaxitoxin

Saxitoxin og neosaxitoxin (er purinderivater) er neurotoxiner (nervegifte) der produceres af dinoflagellater (Gonyaulax catanella og G. tamarensis) (rødt tidevand) og af en blågrøn alge (Aphanizomenon flos-aquae), giftstoffet kan optages af muslinger som æder disse organismer, hvorved de kan blive fatalt giftige (Torsell, 1997). LD₅₀ i mus i.p.:10 mg/kg. p.o.: 263 mg/kg. i.v. 3,4 mg/kg. Blokerer transmissionen af nerveimpulser, dette medfører lammelser og eventuelt dødsfald.
